Exhibition Highlight – Love Richard – Love Letters from Death Row Romeo
On 18th February 2011, British author Ricki Thomas picked up her pen and wrote a letter that changed her life forever…
Sitting on death row at San Quentin prison, Richard Ramirez had committed horrific crimes, he’d savagely terrorised the LA neighbourhood on a vicious murdering spree.
He became known as ‘The Night Stalker’ He invaded people’s houses at night, raping, murdering and stealing. He’d shock his victims with cords, bludgeon with hammers and shoot them in the head. He’d leave pentagrams on walls or victim’s mutilated bodies and make them swear their love to Satan.
So WHY would you make FRIENDS with a MONSTER??!*
Ricki Thomas says: “A moment of madness. I was at a difficult point in my life, I had studied and researched his case and found him fascinating”
“I felt I was writing to a human being, not a monster.” “The sexual element could be good for all, being in contact with a bad boy when he’s safely behind bars”.
True CRIME Museum, Hastings takes a look at the exclusive letters that were sent between Ricki and Richard Ramirez, The Night Stalker in their exhibition ‘Love Richard’.
Curator, Joel Griggs said: “When Ricki came to us to share her letters from Richard Ramirez I was really knocked for six. They’re an exclusive and fascinating insight into the mind of the world’s most infamous serial killer, his thoughts, feelings, desires and obsessions. We’re honoured to be displaying these original documents and can’t wait to show them to our visitors new and old from across the world.”
